How It Started

“My introduction to Thomas was through a letter he wrote to me when he was in grade ten. This young man was interested in what it was like to be a Denturist and could he come into the office to observe for a couple of hours after school each day. l was intrigued by his curiosity and the fact that he offered to do work like shovelling and cleaning the office for the opportunity. His interest had been peaked by a visit he made to our office with his grandfather. Shortly after this Thomas began to come two or three days a week after school. (We didn't make him shovel the snow).

However we did notice that his interest never wained so we began to teach him some of the more rudimentary lab procedures. This went on for the remainder of high school and he took advantage of the TH&VS job shadow day and co-op program to continue to further his connection with us. During this period his lab skills developed and he became an asset to the practice and it obviously cemented his chosen career path. At this point we hired Thomas and he started working summers.

I have a very clear memory of the day he told us that he was applying to the Denturist program at George Brown College and the day he proudly announced his acceptance. It was somewhere in around this time that l realized that when he graduated and became a Denturist that it world alien well with my retirement. I mentioned the same to Thomas.

It has been six years since he has become a Denturist, (l think l stuck around a little longer than he thought l would), and in that time l have watched Him mature into an exceptional practitioner with the same levels of respect for quality care and patient service that l have valued throughout my career.
I am proud that he will be taking over my practice.

I have always loved living in the north. The life style and freedom we have suited me and it would seem that the next generation of Denturist in our office is cut from the same cloth.

Good luck Thomas”

Owner / Denturist

Thomas Vezina was born and raised in Timmins Ontario, and has had an interest in denturism from a young age. Back in 2010, Thomas’ interest in the industry peaked after accompanying his grandfather to an appointment at Collins Denture and Implant Centre. Following this, Thomas wrote a letter to Mr. Keith Collins inquiring to see if he could observe the procedure of denture creation, and in exchange, he would shovel the steps at the office. Mr. Collins happily obliged and allowed Thomas to come in after school to learn as much as he could about the profession. From here, Thomas completed his high school job shadowing programs as well as his CO-OP education course offered through Timmins High and Vocational School at Collins Denture and Implant Centre under Mr. Collins’ guidance. Following this, Thomas was given the opportunity to become part of the team as a summer student at the office. After high school, Thomas decided to pursue his career dreams and applied to the Denturism program at George Brown College in Toronto, ON. With years of experience under his belt, a glowing recommendation letter from Mr. Collins and an in-depth interview with the college, Thomas was accepted into the program straight out of high school, something very few people accomplish. After graduating in 2015, Thomas returned home to Timmins and began his professional career. Today, he has a catalogue of his own patients for which he completes clinical appointments as well as the accompanying laboratory work and full fabrication of their dentures. Additionally, Thomas completes Mr. Collins laboratory work to help reduce his workload. Thomas quickly fell in love with the denturist profession at a young age as it allows him to express himself artistically, all while being part of the health science industry and changing people's lives for the better.
